I have a nephew of almost two years. When he gets tired he cries over anything, yet for some reason he refuses to sleep. His mother knows he needs to sleep, I know he needs to sleep. The neighbors probably know he needs to sleep. Yet the refusal is constant. So, we put him in the car. We give him a bottle and drive until he falls asleep, which he usual does quickly. As my nephew starts getting fussy he starts asking for random things, thinking that he can fill his need for sleep with other activities. However, that is never the case. He needs to rest and their is no other way around it. The more time I spend with my nephew the more I see how God's paternal love is mirrored in the relationship of parents and their children. I don't have kids, so spending time with my nephews is as close as I can get now to understanding parental love. In any case the relationship is mirrored. I do to God, what my nephew does to his parents. When I need love, I begin to search for it in things that do not fulfill or satisfy that need. I sometimes look for love on social media, which is fulfilling the first few scrolls. I look for it in belongings, but then they go out of style. I search in people, but where will the blind leading the blind end up? Until finally God nudges me in someway and gives me the rest I need. He drives me around until I fall asleep in his arms. The great philosopher ST. Augustine once said "our hearts are restless until they rest in you oh Lord". We keep looking in the wrong places, but the truth is we just need to lay down and fall asleep as God takes care of all things. Love isn't found in things, pure satisfactory love is found in God. You are loved. Ask God for His blessings and He will give it to you. "Whatever you ask for in my name believe that you have received it and it will be given to you" Matthew 21:22
